Zwift Ride with Kickr Core

If you’re reading this and you’re not me, this section of the site – like the others, most likely – is probably going to be quite boring. It’s going to be a pseudo diary of my trials and tribulations or indoor cycling training.

After watching a whole whack-ton of youTube videos including those of Mark Lewis, RandiRacesBikes (who is so incredibly impressive, my goodness), and Ryan Condon, I purchased a Zwift Ride with Kickr Core.

I really need to work on my fitness. The two sports teams I regularly play for have both, sadly, folded, meaning my exercise has gone to practically zero. And in the other direction has gone my weight. Generally speaking I’ve been incredibly fortunate, my weight very rarely shifts, I’m 180lbs plus or minus a couple of pounds, regardless of what I eat or do, and it’s been that way for two decades.

It turns out getting old..sucks. So, I’m now 193lbs, comfortably the heaviest I’ve ever been, my cardio-vascular fitness feels like it is that of a an asthmatic hamster, and my muscle mass is … not massive.

So begins the journey.

My goal this year is to climb Alpe du Zwift (which is a recreation of Alde Du Huez in a virtual world) in the Christmas to New Year break in under 100 minutes. That feels achievable. The goal next year, should I achieve that 100 minute mark, will be to lower it to 80 minutes, and, eventually, get to under an hour. I’m not entirely sure how achievable the sub-60 is, but we’ll see.

Races are also on the cards, but first, I need to get over this saddle sore…
